Film on a whim

THE LOBSTER

Yorgos Lanthimos

“In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into an animal of their choice and sent off into The Woods.”

If you haven’t seen this film, go see it. In this film we follow David and his struggle to find love under the pressure of time. He is the only character in the film who has a name other than his brother, Bob, the dog. The story can be very dark at times but manages to make you laugh despite the fact that David is in such a bleak and hostile environment and situation. The plot travels through many unexpected twists and turns which constantly keeps you on edge as you sympathise with David and hope that he manages to avoid the impending doom of becoming a Lobster.

The film was shot beautifully and colour graded beautifully and the characters made me feel happy, sad, scared, angry, awkward.
