So after concluding on the idea of an AR quest experience I came across this video and thought about personalisation. Personalisation in this instance makes everything more unique to you which in turn makes it more immersive:

When the experience is less tailored to you it becomes more evident that the whole experience is just an illusion which breaks the immersion, you can empathise with this when the user in the video gets hacked.

For the gallery, I think that having an experience which involves personalization will help the user have an immersive experience as it will feel like they are talking to the user directly when asking them to do something.
